A group of American volunteers serving in Ukraine’s 13th National Guard Brigade, “Khartia,” has released a video explaining their stance on the war. In it, they denounce the U.S. president’s false statements, accusing him of echoing Russian propaganda.
“This is by no means how most foreigners feel about Ukraine,” says a volunteer soldier who goes by the callsign Nas (Nasty). “None of us would be here if that was the case. People from all over the world are coming to fight. What he [Trump] said wasn’t just incredibly rude—it was also full of falsehoods. When he blamed Ukraine, saying it was Ukraine’s fault… it was really admirable of Zelensky to step up and say, ‘This isn’t a card game we’re playing’.”
The soldier also pushes back against the idea that Ukraine is running out of troops. “That’s simply not true. There are people here from 58 countries. Right now, thousands are arriving from around the world to join the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian troops already fighting. And more enlist every day. He’s painting a completely false picture, one that only bolsters Russian confidence. This is Russian propaganda straight from the mouth of an American president. It’s shameful,” the American soldier concludes. “I voted for that man [Trump – ed.] two times […] but last night he crossed the line. To invite the man [Zelensky – ed.] from a war-torn country all across the world to berate him and humiliate him, it was immature, childish and stupid”.
Guess, another soldier, says he, like his comrades, came to Ukraine to stand with the Ukrainian people. “I’m at a loss for words; that was a very unfortunate and unprofessional show. All I would like to say is that the words exchanged [at the Oval Office – ed.] are not representative of the vast majority of Americans. But, end of the day, I know that most Americans, just like me and Nasty here, just want to help the Ukrainian people. That’s what this fight is about,” Gess explains. “It’s about stopping the spread of evil—the killing of civilians, the deliberate missile strikes on children’s hospitals, and so much more. The list goes on.”
