On March 1, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced the signing of a ten-year bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the Netherlands, enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

The document was signed as part of the G7 Joint Declaration supporting Ukraine, adopted at the NATO summit in Vilnius. The agreement solidifies the Netherlands’ commitment to continue cooperation for the ongoing provision and expansion of assistance to Ukraine in defense against Russian aggression, as long as needed. This agreement remains in effect for ten years from the date of signing.

In the agreement, it’s set that the Netherlands will provide 2 billion euros in military aid for 2024 and continue defence support for the next 10 years.

The deal inked on Friday includes a robust military package outlining the supply of modern military equipment to Ukraine and bolstering the defence industry. The focus is on providing air defense systems, artillery, armored vehicles, supporting maritime and long-range capabilities, and especially, Ukraine’s Air Forces.

In the non-military sphere, the agreement includes strengthening assistance to Ukraine in the direction of economic recovery and reconstruction, countering hybrid threats in the fields of intelligence, cyber, and information security, combating organised crime, as well as in the area of critical infrastructure.

Additionally, the document includes detailed provisions on sanctions, compensation for damages, and holding the aggressor state accountable. It also highlights Dutch support for Ukraine’s cultural heritage. The agreement solidly affirms the Netherlands’ support for Ukraine’s future EU and NATO membership and establishes a 24-hour emergency response mechanism in case of renewed military aggression against Ukraine.
