Australia, Sydney I #LightWillWinOverdDarkness

On the 1-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine, there were demonstrations in 115 cities and 30 countries across the world. The demonstrations were part of a global protest under the name of #LightWillWinOverDarkness, in support of Ukraine.

Participants of the movement took to the central streets and squares, covered in Ukrainian flags, recreated Ukraine’s form on a map with lights, and projected Ukraine’s colors onto famous monuments and buildings across the globe. Some held signs with the 15 Reasons Why The World Needs Ukrainian Victory by Timothy Snyder, or posters with the Zelensky’s 10-point peace plan, which he proposed at the UN General Assembly earlier on.

The co-organizer of the global movement is the Communities Army of Ukraine, and one of the conceptualizers of the movement Andriy Yermolenko. Under the slogan of #LightWillWinOverDarkness, more than 100,000 concerned citizens took to the streets in different countries. In Warsaw, over 20,000 took part, Tbilisi – 10,000, Barcelona – over 8,000, Berlin and Prague – both 5,000 and Milan – 2,000.

In Stockholm, the demonstrations were attended by the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tobias Billström. In Budapest, the demonstration was attended by the mayor, Gergely Karácsony. Regional politicians took part in the various demonstrations as well in Prague, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Aachen, Zurich and other cities.
