Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin says that the ministry will appoint an official tasked with cross-border cooperation, in particular, with Hungary. Speaking in Warsaw following his meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, Klimkin told journalists that the decision of the Hungarian side to change their special envoy's title of the “authorized minister responsible for the development of the Transcarpathian region and the program for the development of kindergartens in the Carpathian basin” will be published next week. “What we agreed on is this: first really come specifics. The decision will be next week. It will be published in the relevant Hungarian sources in line with the Hungarian legislation. We agreed that after title change and following that period, we in our ministry will also make a position, perhaps not that similar, that will deal with cross-border cooperation. It's very serious,” said Klimkin.

He added that there is a strategic level of discussion on what Ukraine and Hungary will do together, but there is also a technical level of discussion that needs to be improved. In this regard, the top diplomat explained that joint Ukrainian-Hungarian initiatives should be implemented in Zakarpattia (Transcarpathia), rather than only Hungarian ones for the local population, in particular, for the Hungarian minority. “Second. We talked in detail about how Hungary should do more for our community in Hungary,” Klimkin said. The Foreign Minister has noted that it is necessary to protect Ukrainians abroad, and added that the launched discussion on the issue will continue.
