The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) welcomes the establishment of the Canada-Ukraine Mobility Working Group, which will improve opportunities for Ukrainians to travel to Canada after COVID-19 restrictions are removed. The establishment of the Working Group was announced today by the Honorable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
“The UCC is very pleased with today’s announcement. The Ukrainian Canadian community is a strong advocate for the development of ever closer ties between the people of Canada and Ukraine,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “The launch of this working group is an important step in increasing these connections for the benefit of both Canada and Ukraine.”
The Working Group, a partnership of the governments of Canada and Ukraine, will let the two countries “share best practices on migration management, increase recruitment, promote Canada’s economic immigration programs and further strengthen co-operation on migration-related matters.”
Minister Mendicino stated, “I thank the Ukrainian Canadian Congress for their longstanding leadership and advocacy on this important issue and the vibrant Ukrainian Canadian community in Canada for engagement and support that has made this new partnership possible.”
The UCC will host a virtual community information session with Minister Mendicino in the near future.
The UCC has been working on mobility issues between Canada and Ukraine for many years, including as part of work of the Canada Ukraine Stakeholder Advisory Council, which UCC co-chairs. Among the UCC’s six key policy priorities is immigration and travel policy.
