The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has announced the start of the local election campaign from September 5.
The next local elections have been scheduled for October 25, the CEC recalls. "On August 30, a regular meeting of the Central Election Commission was held, where the Commission announced the beginning of the local elections campaign," the CEC told UNIAN.
The agency noted that the decision was in line with the requirements of the Electoral Code.
The following resolutions have been taken into account: Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's Parliament, "On the appointment of the next local elections in 2020" of July 15;
CEC Resolution No. 160 of August 8 "On the first elections of deputies of rural, settlement, city councils of territorial communities and the corresponding rural, settlement and city heads on October 25, 2020";
CEC Resolution No. 161 of August 8 "On the impossibility of holding the first elections of deputies of individual rural, settlement, city councils of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the corresponding rural, settlement, city mayors on October 25, 2020";
CEC Resolution No. 176 of August 14 "On the appointment of the first elections of deputies of district councils for October 25, 2020".
Also, the CEC made changes to its resolution of August 8 "On the calendar plan of the main organizational measures for the preparation and conduct of local elections on October 25, 2020".
Local elections 2020: background On July 15, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on the appointment of the next local elections for October 25 (No. 3809). Elections of deputies of Donetsk and Luhansk regional councils have not been appointed as it is impossible to ensure representation of common interests of the territorial communities of villages, towns, and cities.
