Last week during a meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, UNESCO inscribed as World Heritage cultural sites eight wooden tserkvas (churches) in the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine and an Ancient City Tauric Chersonese and its Chora (Crimean Peninsula, Ukraine)

The oldest wooden churches preserved in the Carpathians were built in 16th century. These churches constitute the most perfect achievements of the wooden tserkva architecture of their time, and astonish to this date with their complex construction solutions, according to the UNESCO’s document.

Ancient City Tauric Chersonese and its Chora are located on Crimea and the Black Sea in Ukraine. The site features the remains of a city founded by Dorian Greeks in the fifth century B.C., including agricultural lands divided into rectangular plots called 'chora'.
